Google – Real Time Search – Personalization – what now?

December 8th, 2009 | Posted by janet b in GOOGLE RELATED | SEO Factors

Over the last couple of days we learned of some new Google changes. It has been years since Google has rolled out some new search engine changes. Some of them are exciting and some, well blah.

1. Page Load time will affect your ranking - So, this is pretty interesting all along it didn’t seem to matter a whole lot. Your page load times, if they were really slow were annoying to your visitors, but wasn’t as impacting on the search engines. Now all that changes. I have a few areas that this is a serious concern, guess what I will be working on in Q1?

2. Real Time Search - Get your real time results now with inclusion of Facebook, Twitter, MySpace – “Relevance is the foundation of this product,” Singhal said. “It’s relevance, relevance, relevance.” –Amit Singhal, Google fellow Love that quote!  This expected any day now. Non English versions rolling out in January or sometime Q1 from what I understand.

3. Personalization - This is so old, it’s really not news anymore. If you’ve been in the industry long enough, you have heard “personalization is coming!” Well it’s here – you don’t have to be logged into your Google account either. The new “normal” as it’s now called. The old way of search is over. Like many things your used to, this might take some getting used to. Especially for all those “old” CEOs who love looking at Google on a daily basis – “where’s my company when I search” – well it will actually work out for them, because the more they access their own company site, the more that site will appear in their relevant results.

I realize Google has to be constantly moving, and now with Bing in the running, even more so. It’s good that “the Google” is now feeling some heat from Bing – healthy competition is always a good thing.
