You & Matt Cutts – SMX ADVANCED 2009

June 10th, 2009 | Posted by janet b in SEO Factors

I know I have a lot to update here, but I will start with the last session on day 1: You & A with MattQ: How can you tell if your site is in the penalty box?A: If you don’t see it any longer in Google (hahaha) there are different types of penalties, like for simple stuff, hidden text, or hacked. Other penalties have fine nuainces – we dont make all penalties public, only the most obvious ones. If you find your site dropped out completely, go to the Webmaster Forum and ask for help.Q: Previously you supported PR sculpting is this no longer supported? Is it considered a negative?A: No it’s not, however you want to do links within your site, that’s fine, the nofollows you should include are sign in pages, legal etc. it is MUCH better to have good site architecture to most important pages fairly close to home. The best idea is to work with your site structure, who cares about nofollow, its not as effective. Make new content, if using nofollow to change how Page Rank flows, just make your site flow better. There was some rapid discussion on this whole PR sculpting that got pretty well out of hand, but if you want to read more aboutĀ Matt and his Google thoughts try his blogĀ
